First Game

Sunderland v Liverpool Easter it was 0-0 and I got taken home at halftime as it was snowing. I remember the toilet was a piece of clay pipe.

Best Game

Newcastle 1 Sunderland 2 August 1999. Newly promoted the Sunderland squad cost less than Fergusson and Shearer who were both on the bench. Torrential rain and no roof. Derby given 3,000 tickets the week before Sunderland 800. Newcastle score before Quinn and Phillips win it for Sunderland but not before Kevin Ball hits his own crossbar from the halfway line.

Worst Game

Wembley ‘98 Sunderland 4 Charlton 4. Many chances to win for both sides great game but crushed at the end. Possibly the best thing that could have happened winning the league with 100+ points the next year but it felt like the big chance missed.

Loved my first visit to Crewe in 97-98 with both the away fans and Crewe fans from the main stand leaving from the same exit and mingling on the way out. Seemed so nice compared to most grounds with heavy segregation.

Temporary stand which has seen better days, no roof, access via a back street. Driving 400 miles first didn’t help!
