Belgian side Club Brugge have unveiled designs for a new 40,000 seater stadium... but the plans may already be scuppered.
The stadium would be built on the site of the current Jan Breydel Stadion and is designed to be one of the most ultra-modern in Europe. However, the project would mean neighbours and co-tenants Cercle Brugge would need to build their own stadium - a move which has already been blocked by the local council.
The Belgian First Division club unveiled the plans which show a large 12,000 seater stand modeled on Borussia Dortmund's famous "yellow wall" at Signal Iduna Park. The plans also include a unique facade which will allow the stadium to blend into the urban background and a US-style central video cube which will be hung from the roof.
The club were hoping to start work next year and complete the new ground in time for the start of the 2022/2023 season. However, it now seems to be a case of "back to the drawing board" as the clubs look to satisfy the local council.
