First game was 14 September 1968. Went with my grandpa: Newcastle Utd v WBA. 2-1 up at half-time we lost 3-2 - welcome to a lifetime of suffering.
14 January 1976. League Cup Semi Final Newcastle Utd 3 - Tottenham 1. Went with a load of mates from school. Left with hope and joy - this was going to be the year we were going to win something.
Not necessarily the worst, perhaps the funniest. A dreadfully mediocre season for the Toon in the old Div 2 (Championship). The Newcastle v Wrexham match at St James' Park on Wed 28 March 1979 was abandoned at half time due to rain. The score was 1-1 at the time - match void. The attendance at that match was 7,152 which was the lowest post-war League crowd at the ground. Me and my mates were in the Gallowgate end (which had no roof), we ended up crouching down at the bottom of the terrace to take shelter from the driving rain. They should have abandoned it earlier but we'd have got a refund so the game continued. Conditions were so bad it later emerged our captain Terry Hibbit had got exposure.
It's neat, painted and loved. The pies are delicious and the staff are friendly. Proper football ground.
It's cramped and basically a bit of a dump. Luton supporters deserve better.
