About samwiseshango

Notable mentions must go to Spurs 3-2 Blackburn, great game for a neutral, Barnet 2-2 Wrexham for the worst touch in the history of football by Tresor Kandol and Crystal Palace 1-2 Bristol City in the Playoff Semi Final. Awesome atmosphere and a cracking last minute winner from David Noble.

First Game

Unbelievably the first football match I went to was England vs. Norway at the Old Wembley. I was 9 - I know this because it was in 1994 the year I got in to football. It was a friendy and it was 0-0, not very memorable, though I remember we scored a goal which was chalked off so probably should have won, but otherwise I remember nothing (except waiting for hours to get out of the car park after the game!)

Best Game

Been fortunate that most of the games I've been to have been pretty much goal crazy to be honest - has to be a game involving my own team so I'll say Man Utd 4-3 Hull. Took my mate for his first visit to Old Trafford as a neutral and he got a bit of a cracker. We were 4-1 up and crusing, but a Bernard Mendy inspired (I know) comeback meant we were hanging on a bit at the end.

Worst Game

The England game was poor but the experience was amazing, worst game was probably Leyton Orient 0-0 Carlisle at The Matchroom Stadium. Very little happened, the crowd are miles from the pitch and the 'stadium' is quite a long way from anywhere. People actually appear to live in the ground. All very odd.

Been to the New Wembley a few times I am fortunate enough to say and it is a phenomenal stadium. The bowl like arena makes for a great crowd noise and the arch is slowly starting to become an inconic part of sporting history. Helps that I've seen some very good games there too - Dagenham and Redbridge's League Two Playoff final victory against Rotherham finished 3-2 and was a particularly good game.

Probably a bit harsh to call the other St James' Park the worst ground I've been too but the away end was awful - totally open, no seats just a standing area, and one barrier - reminds me of an old Conference Ground in its set up. Also was extremely cold. Doesn't help that the game was woeful too - Exeter beat Bristol Rovers 1-0 with an 85th minute header from a corner. Not a particularly inspiring visit.
