wonderwasp has rated Plainmoor 4.0 out of 5.
The news that Gaming International's takeover of TUFC has been called off has hopefully ended any silly ideas about the Gulls moving away to some nasty off-the-peg stadium on a business park. Plainmoor is one of the suburbs, along with Babbacombe and Ellacombe, which borders the ground. It's only a short walk to the cliffs and the stadium is perfect for the club. There's a shiny new stand, a covered standing end for away fans, a side terrace for the Yellow Army and a family stand and bar at the other end. It has evolved into a lovely ground indeed, which just needs a lick of yellow or blue paint to make it pristine again now that the proposed move is off. Just don't expect to walk it in 10minutes from the town centre. By heck that hill is steep!
It's a unique location, really. Approaching the Ellacombe End you pass huge rundown mansions and posh houses, and at the Babbacombe End there's a pretty park just down the road. Plainmoor itself, on the other hand, is a classic working class area with lots of shops. You never forget how close you are to the sea and Torquay is a lovely town.
There's a pitch-length standing terrace on one side and an all-seater stand opposite. All four sides are under cover. What more could anyone wish for?
The Ellacombe End has its own bar, which you can enter directly from the seats. After the match you might bump into the odd player or director.
Chips. And more chips. This is the seaside after all.
Not really noticed, which is a good sign. I once saw a game against Plymouth during which they steamed in a bit but otherwise the police has more pressing business in the pubs and clubs down by the harbour.
I've been to Plainmoor about half a dozen times. The terrace was fantastic in a relegation battle against Bristol Rovers one day but there are times when things do get a bit sleepy, it must be said.
