This was my first ever European tie! Aberystwyth Town v Derry City in the Europa League on a balmy evening surrounded by green hillsides. The ground is nothing to write home about but it's where the local football followers go to cheer on their team and it's perfectly adequate for its purpose.
The views are as beautiful as you could wish for at any football ground and the arena itself is well within walking distance of the town and sea front.
From the main stand, the side structure actually gets in the way of the view of either end. You can see 90% of the pitch OK but the other 10% is arguably the best bit!
Toilets and snack bar are no disgrace at all. I've seen a lot worse in the English League.
They do a very decent chip, which, for a vegetarian, is the best you can hope for.
Very friendly place. The Derry fans made a lot of noise and were left to enjoy themselves as much as they liked.
Considering their side lost 5-0 (9-0 on aggregate) the Aber fans kept in pretty good humour. What we saw and heard was a community enjoying its football on a special occasion, with the visitors from across the sea enjoying a party atmosphere. A grand day out, in fact.
