"Goodbye Glanford Park. You'll not be missed!"

wonderwasp's review of Glanford Park

Scunthorpe took a brave step when they pioneered the rash of new grounds that began late last century. It's not their fault that Glanford Park became out of date so quickly. Soon the club will be off again, even further away from town. At this rate they'll end up in Doncaster one day!

Location

When first built the ground was in the middle of nowhere but it's worse now that a huge retail park has developed next to it. Where's the town? It's somewhere up the road but does any visiting supporter ever go there? I fear not, and I'm sure the shopkeepers of Scunthorpe would like an influx of visitors every other week as much as those elsewhere.

View

The view is no better or worse than average. When the stadium was first built it was better than most other lower division grounds but the rest have caught up now.

Facilities

Never really developed beyond the basic and there's no point now that the Iron are ready to pack up and leave again.

Food & Drink

Not known.

Police & Stewards

No bother with stewards or turnstile operators who seem perfectly friendly to me.

Atmosphere

Home fans make the most of occupying the only standing terrace in the ground. They always seem to me to be a decent bunch of football followers. I hope they'll be happier in their new home even though it'll be even further from Scunthorpe. I think of Darlington, their swanky out of town ground and the ensuing catastrophe that overtook the Quakers. Tread carefully there, folks!
