No wonder Rovers slipped out of the League at Belle Vue. By the end of the 20th century it must have been the worst ground in the League by far. The club's notorious "benefactor" tried to burn it down but if he had succeeded nobody would have noticed the difference. It was that bad.
One special quirk though. The two teams came out of different doors in the stand. I'd love to have seen them try to co-ordinate them both coming out at once.
Hard to find (at the time) for strangers, but nice and easy for pilots since there was an airfield next door.
Dreadful. Away fans were literally caged in on an open terrace.
For men, bad enough, but I have it on good authority that the women's toilet was a bucket with a blob of disinfectant inside.
In the main stand there was a cosy tea bar.
Once the stewards had put everyone into the cage there wasn't much else for them to do, really.
By the end, pretty terrible. The demolition of the stand at the Rossington End left little in the way of building at the ground and any noise just blew away on the breeze.
