"Very unique stadium"

has rated Rodney Parade 3.0 out of 5.

trebor's review of Rodney Parade

Excellent location with two open roofless stands one with temporary seating the other terraced behind each goal, then two seated stands one old one new, the old one also has a terrace at the front of it which was covered there was also a flat tarmaced area. This stadium possibly offers the broadest range of choices when choosing to watch a professional football match with even a chance of moving between terraces during the game, even a bedroom window is an option if you know the neighbours.

Location

Easy half mile walk from Train station and a nice picturesque crossing of the USK over the new bridge.
Although there is a lack of food outlets near the ground there is a large pub near the home terrace. I'd expect this to be resolved once the redevelopment of the riverside area is completed.

View

From where I sat in the new Bisley Stand the view was superb, close to the pitch and plenty of legroom, If it rained heavily I would have got wet and I expect those in the open stands did today, but you do get a choice.
Even the antiquated turnstiles were easily to get through although the barcode reader looked as if it had been bought from poundland with the operator needing to bang it and move it around to get it working.

Facilities

The toilets were OK but why do they leave the cleaning stuff in a sink on matchday?

Food & Drink

Cracking choice with separate drinks bar meaning less of a queue for food and a tuck shop run by kids selling sweets, there was also a vending machine available.
The Burgers and Hotdogs were of a much higher standard of quality than I have ever seen at a Football match with two types of foot long sausages a hot dog style and a traditional sausage with onions fried for you. The Burgers were huge with Double bacon burgers also an option and well priced. I wonder if the outlets are better due to it having a Rugby Club as an owner??

Police & Stewards

Hard to give a rating when you hardly notice any. Although they should have been aware that the ground boundaries were totally ineffective as they collapsed when a few fans went to congratulate the Oxford scorer hurting a Ball Boy in the process.

Atmosphere

OK for a game with little at stake yet this is a criticism of all English league games the songs/noise are the same ones heard at every ground these days and are boring.
