"Oh!! Mansfield"

has rated Field Mill 3.0 out of 5.

trebor's review of Field Mill

Mansfield are one of the clubs that you forget about when it comes to Pub Quizzes.
And after you have visited.
I checked out Stagsnet Forum prior to attending and a few mention ''tinpot'' when describing smaller clubs who have spent more of the last 10 years in the Football League than themselves.
Field Mill is three sides with a derelict stand at one side. and a good two tiered stand facing it and two ordinary stands behind the goal.
The access to the ground should be among the best in the lower leagues yet this along with the market stall set-up for the ''Club Shop''.
Makes you wonder how ''Rosy'' are the Spectacles warn by Forum warriors?

Location

Although you will not see many sights around the pretty bland locality the location is excellent for the train station:-
You will probably be arriving via Nottingham. Take the exit path and walk under the railway bridge join the path for the opposite platform and head over footbridge, walk around or in-between Burger King & Frankie & Benny's, then cross traffic lights and make your way through the car park to whichever stand you require. If you are in the home ends you will need to open the large gates to get in.
I assume you could park in the retail park as many appeared to have done, But check first.
I marked it Four due to the path finishing before the ground instead of continuing to the Stadium.

View

The view was faultless with plenty of room, although there looked to be sight-line issues from some seats due to the safety barriers surrounding exit points.
Front Row seats in top tier also looked to be a bit cramped for taller adults.

Facilities

Could not find any Men's Toilets. So if they are their they were poorly sign posted.
If you want ''corporate'' then this seemed to very limited, even the ''Chesterfield Scout'' sat in the normal seats.

Food & Drink

Tea was hot & Strong but in a small thin cup without a lid and with extras such as milk placed on a wall hidden behind supporters watching the TV's. I'm glad my young lad hadn't come along as he likes a cuppa at the match but carrying hot drinks in flimsy open containers would be problematic especially when carrying it to your place in the stand.
I also had brown sludge in the bottom of a PG Tips Cup??
1 mark for service although I was the only one present.

Police & Stewards

Awkward ticket entry system which requires you to flash your barcode at the reader instead of inserting it. Meaning a steward was required on each gate to help ever supporter through.
The whole point of theses systems is to speed up entry and reduce turnstile operators so that they can be redeployed as Stewards. Yet some systems make it less efficient than traditional system it replaced.
Staff & Police were fine

Atmosphere

Average.
FA Cup games at the First Round tend to be special if it involve League V Non-League or a derby. from experience even if one Club is in a from a lower division they tend to be a bit of dull affair.
The prices were lower than league fixtures yet the attendance was still low. With both Nottingham Club's playing Friday you would have thought pricing it at £ 10 + a kid free to attract locals into the ground would have filled it better and convinced more into Field Mill in future.
There was a bit of singing and no generic copycat crap from Oldham. A very few Mansfield fans behind the goal tried once or twice but stopped pretty quick when none joined in which was a huge relief.
