The Wheatsheaf Park ground is perfectly positioned in a leafy lane close to the Thames. In fact so close that they actually share it with the Thames Club, a posh toffs gym sort of thing. The team had moved back here in 2003 after a £20m facelift funded by the local council, and what a smart facility they now have. The club even advertise themselves as “Proper Football, Proper Fans†and who were we to argue as we paid our £10 to enter the threshold, hoping to be entertained.
Not a lot around the ground unless you want to go to the gym. Ground is a good 20 minutes walk from the town centre and there is little in the way of local hostalries nearby.
Views are unobstructed from rows 3 back in the main stand. Small covered terrace opposite offers good views.
Decent main stand offers cover from elements and the plush newish bar has a great view of the game with a big screen TV and pool table.
Normal choice of burgers and chips, not much imagination but reasonably priced.
Understated.
For a Blue Square South team with an average attendance of 400ish the small core of fans aka The Staines Massive in the main stand make a big noise and if there are a good following from the away team the atmosphere is very good.
