stuff10 has rated Johan Cruyff Arena (Amsterdam Arena) 4.5 out of 5.
I visited Amsterdam early in 2008 and although Ajax were away from home when we went, we did go to the Amsterdam ArenA for a tour of the ground - which is fantastic and well worth the €10. Tours operate most days and you can just turn up (without booking) and take your place on the next available tour. The tours are in both English and Dutch and give you a great view of the stadium: inside the stands, at pitch level, in the Ajax museum and in the press box.
The stadium itself is large and modern with a retractable roof that makes it totally enclosed. Approaching from the outside, the ground looks very futuristic with its grey exterior and external escalators to transport fans to the higher levels.
The ground is built to the south of the city centre, but is easily accessible by the local rail network (approx 10 mins from Centraal Station). I can't say how easy it is to get to on a matchday though!
The view of the pitch from all seats is excellent - as you'd expect from a modern ground. However, the stands are VERY steep - don't get tickets at the back of the upper tier if you're scared of heights! I was petrified when we were sat up there!!
Can't comment - it wasn't a matchday!
Again, I can't comment.
Well... the tour guides seemed quite proud of the fact that Ajax's fans have a hard reputation in Holland - even pointing out where their "Ultras" (hooligans) sit in the stadium!
Away fans are located in a block of seats in the upper tier that is surrounded by fences - it doesn't look very welcoming! There is also a dedicated train station/platform to keep the home and away supporters apart! Trouble obviously happens at Ajax as Ajax and Feyenoord have banned away fans from fixtures between the sides for the next 5 years!
