Once you've battled your way through London either by car or tube and you get near the ground the place is a hubbub of activity, even before you get sight of the stadium. Loads of pubs, loads of street sellers, a busy Fulham Road. The big game atmosphere hits you overwhelmingly. A great place to visit for real English football.
If driving in by car park well away from the ground, preferably somewhere down the North End Road over a mile away from the ground towards Craven Cottage. Otherwise drive to an underground station away from the area and catch the tube. Expect large queues and a bit of a wait after the game but once you're on the train you're soon away. Loads of pubs in the area but closer to the ground they are mainly "Home Supprters Only". Be careful of prices on the Fulham Road.
Decent view from the away corner in the Upper Tier.
Toilets far too small for the visitors allocation so normally a bit of a queue up. Security is way, way over the top. I am such a baddun!
Bland lager that you always have to queue up and wait for. They stop serving 15 minutes before the match even if you have been waiting to get served. This can be a tad annoying.
Policing is present but fairly low key as there is not much trouble on the busy Fulham Road before and after the game. Most of the police are there to direct supporters to the Underground after the match. Stewards there are basically lazy and don't do much, are not interested in their job and just do it for some extra easy dosh.
Chelsea fans are generally loud and mouthy - gobbing off about how good they are and taking the pee out of the opposition, who obviously aren't a patch on them and their team! But I'm just a Northern Monkey - so what do I know?
So, yeah, a good atmosphere!
