smithybridge-blue has rated St James' Park 4.5 out of 5.
Huge stadium that holds 52,000+ people. Great atmosphere and friendly fans that always like the banter (apart from the ones that go near the Away section at the end of the game to taunt the opposition fans coming out). Within walking distance of the City Centre so plenty to do around the game. The only setback is the slow traffic getting to the City Centre from the outside of Newcastle.
Great location. Right next to the City Centre which has loads of eateries and (cheap) watering holes. Loads of car parks to choose from, which are generally cheaper to park in than most clubs car parks who charge the earth for 2 hours parking. The Railway station is a brisk walk down the road from the ground, which is handy.
Good views from all around the ground, although the players can look a bit small from the tops of the two biggest stands. The seagulls tend to get in the way of the action from up there too!
The concourse can get a little crowded before the game and at half-time as can the toilets. TV available on the concourse.
Standard food and drink at usual stadia prices. Outlets well staffed, so the service is fairly good.
Police have a fairly large presence round the Away fans turnstyles. They are generally needed after the game to keep their eyes on the young "hard-nuts"'that gather to taunt the Away fans after the game. Stewards are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Always a cracking atmosphere at this stadium as they generally attract crowds of more than 50,000. Can be really loud when the home team is on top. The sound of the away supporters can seem a little suddued as they are tucked away in the Gods in the Sir John Hall stand.
