smithybridge-blue has rated Rodney Parade 3.5 out of 5.
Newport seems a pleasant and functional town, and as the ground is fairly central to the town centre, this is a good place to stop off to see a professional football game. As this has been a long-standing Rugby Stadium, the facilities both in and around the ground are of a good standard and the pre-match activities of the fans are nicely catered for.
Well located on the bank of the River Usk just across the bridge from the town centre. Not well signposted for a football ground and hidden from view from the main road/dual carriageway which crosses the bridge. Street parking is limited in the immediate area but if you arrive early you could find somewhere along the cul-de-sac that goes behind the Hazell Stand.
Seated in The Bisley Stand which is a new structure. Good views of the playing area as the stand has a good elevation and has onobstructed views.
Toilets clean. The away fans can have alcoholic drinks in one of the executive boxes at the top of the seating area which is different to the usual treatment of a visitors section. As the boxes are in view of the pitch, all drinks must be consumed before play commences on the pitch, so it could be a very quick pint. This is not advertised or signposted as we had to ask a steward. Alternatively, non-alcoholic drinks, Hot Dogs, Pies etc. can be obtained from a kiosk on entry into the ground.
Kiosks and a bar in the ground available. The Newport Gwent Dragons Rugby Social Club is open before the game behind the Town End.
Limited Police presence. Stewards, office staff and Club Shop assistants all very friendly and helpful.
A bigger crowd (double the average) still cound not bring anything extra to this stadium. The Football crowd capacity is generally cut to half what the stadium actually holds, so even "capacity" appears half-empty.
