Always a pleasant trip going to Gigg Lane, but get more of a nice day out rather than the exciting atmosphere of a football match. £1 coin gets you into the supporters club which makes away fans very welcome. It's got a pleasant atmosphere with a big screen showing Sky Sports News, a food kitchen serving reasonably priced and very hot (just cooked) food and an understaffed bar serving a decent range of beers (including Forever Bury - the club's own beer!). A nice pre-match experience. The ground is very traditional and has been brought up to modern standards over the past 20 years but in normal matches lacks atmosphere and passion.
Easy to find, just off the A56 Manchester Road between Bury centre and the Prestwich/Whitefield intersection of the M60. Local street parking but watch the signposts for the usual residential restrictions.
Plenty of buses stop near the ground on Manchester Road. Nearest Railway Station is Bury Intersection in the town centre which is the Bury to Manchester Tram Service. This is twinned with the bus station.
View from the main stand obstructed by pillars but a generally good view as the stand is raised above pitch level.
Clean toilets but, as usual, can get a little crowded at half-time, even with a small attendance. TV with Sky Sports News showing on the concourse next to refreshments bar.
Refreshments bar with usual fayre of beer, beverages and pies.
Doesn't seem to be any need for them here. Stewards stood around in twos and threes having a chat. Didn't notice any police.
Really low key. Seems more of a bit of something to do for the locals than a fervant vociferous support. Overall - lacks passion.
