smithybridge-blue has rated DW Stadium 3.5 out of 5.
Decent looking stadium which is probably a bit too large for the local football supporting community although they do groundshare with the towns egg chasers. Built on a Retail Park but not too out of the way.
Just outside the town centre, so a bit of a walk. If using a car then park near the old Springfield Park side of the ground (behind the Boston (East) Stand) as it's less of a walk from there. If you park on the Retail Park side of the ground then it's a hell of a trek.
Modern stadium so good views in general.
Generally decent facilities on the concourse, although the visitors section can get rather crowded there before the match and at half-time.
At least they have a queueing system that is organised by a steward, so it's not the usual annoying free for all. A bit of local knowledge here. Wiganers are called "pie-eaters" because one of the landed gentry many years ago said of the local workforce during an uprising "let them eat humble pie". Thus the name. Sorry, the pies here are no better than anywhere else - so don't expect anything special.
Never a problem. Generally friendly and helpful.
Can be a bit naff as Wigan being a Rugby League town, the local football supporters don't have enough in numbers to fill the stadium. Away fans generally create most of the atmosphere.
