"Extraordinary game"

On a visit to my brother in France we attended a match at SC Agris. They play in a Departmental league. The ground is called Marc Labrousse Stadium, 171 Rte de la Rochette, 16110 Agris. It has a small stand, and a clubhouse with changing rooms and a bar with a small hall for events.

The game was on Sunday, 13th October 2024 against Coqs Rouges Mansle. (Mansle is the town nearest to where my brother lives, and he used to train some young teams when his three lads were growing up.) It was the first home game of the season and the home team had their photo taken in front of the goal, and then went over to the away dugout and greeted the Mansle trainer in a very friendly fashon.

The match was played in warm weather on a recently mown pitch. It was very dry and had a lot of weeds among the grass, both of which made for uneven bounce and ball control was very difficult. Inside 10 minutes it was 2-2, but it settled down a bit as both sides got used to the conditions, and the match finished as a 5-2 win for Agris.

Location

There is no public transport but with a car it is not far from the N10 and easy to find on the edge of the village, with a small sign saying "Stade" at a roundabout. We counted about 50 cars and there was still room for more.

We stood at the railing near the away dugout, but the sun made it quite warm so we watched the second half from the stand, which has very basic seating but we were out of direct sunlight so it was comfortable enough.

Food & Drink

The bar has soft drinks and a draught beer, which was a modern pale ale rather than a lager, and very reasonably priced at two Euros for 25cl (a half pint).

Atmosphere

There was quite a bit of noisy involvement from the crowd but it finished without any trouble, which is just as well as there were no stewards or police. Crowd size probably less than 250.
