St James' Park is a well set up ground with very good facilities, the seats inside the stadium are comfortable, and despite being up in the gods on a Monday night the temperature was comfortable and there was no cold breeze.
The ground is in the centre of Newcastle making it easy to explore and get a feel for the local area, if you fancy a pre-match pint then the best bet is to head through china town onto Newgate street, where several pubs, bars and clubs are open, which offer plenty of offers on drinks. This area also had several places where food could be found.
Some of the Newcastle fans were friendly and were more than willing to help us out, interestingly to get to the turnstiles you have to go down a road which goes underneath the ground, unfortunately for Newcastle this road is private and not a public road, meaning Villa Park can still boast the fact that it is the only ground in England to have a public road go through it.
During the game, the Newcastle fans held a flag display. This looked pretty good and it is great to see the club working with the fans to improve the atmosphere. After the game, however, these same fans walked round to the away fans exit and tried to kick off, the Newcastle fans did seem quite obsessed walking the length of the ground to wave the away fans goodbye.
Overall this was a great ground to visit, especially due to its location and facilities. Seeing the toon has made me want to visit there again, not only for football but to also experience the nightlife, as this looked pretty good from walking around the city.
