Arriving in Reading we parked at the holiday inn, this was expensive however it was a great spot. We went into the holiday inn for a couple beers, but I was disappointed they did not serve Carling. Across the road was a chip shop called Deep Blue, the prices were a little high however the chips were very good.
Entering the ground the stewards were helpful and friendly, as I was walking through the concourse I noticed that on the pies they put a sticker of a villa badge, this was very welcoming. There was also a board stating some facts about our last few meetings at the madjeski. I did note the toilets had hand driers that actually worked which was very good.
Inside the stadium it was a typical modern stadium which killed the atmosphere a little, I did find it interesting that the majority of reading fans who sung sat in the side stand by the away fans, which suggests that they intend to goad the away fans instead of supporting their team.
At half time they opened up the gates to allow for some of the fans to smoke and access to the burger van outside the ground, this opened up space in the concourse and also stopped the toilets filling up with smoke like it does at other grounds. This was very pleasant.
We won the game after a 90th minute penalty from Jordan Ayew. Post match Reading played "don't look back in anger" over the PA system which was a nice touch as all the Villa fans stayed behind and sung to it in celebration.
Overall Reading is a nice place and the club seems to be well ran, however the stadium atmosphere was a little dead as it was a typical modern stadium.
One other thing to note is that the ticket prices were remarkably cheap, it's good to see Reading FC supporting TwentysPlenty.
