"Best atmosphere I have ever seen (Despite the running track)"

samwaters' review of Hampden Park

Hampden Park is a wonderful stadium. Despite not having the height other stadiums have, it has a very big low-lying presence, visible from miles around. It was great to visit a stadium with such history, which included a record attendance of 150,000 despite the club that owns the stadium having an average attendance of 750!

Despite having a running track the atmosphere was the best atmosphere I've ever seen. My stance on running tracks has been proved wrong in this instance. I still think they are ridiculous in most cases though with running tracks ruining the atmosphere at grounds across the country. Just take a look at the Horsfall Stadium!

The police presence was huge throughout the trip, especially in the city centre. Due to the media and the police's perception of English fans I did feel like I was constantly being watched, especially with the reports after Germany. The police were great inside the stadium, with the head officer entertaining us when we were being held back after the game, even getting the police and English fans to clap each other. The police escorted us to and from the game on the train, meaning we got two free train rides on the football special!

The Scottish fans were unreal. They were extremely friendly in the centre and created one of the best home atmospheres I have witnessed. Their singing at half time was also great, I don't understand why Loch Lomond isn't their tunnel music as this would create a YNWA type feel. I will never forget the sight when their second goal went in, it truly was LAOTS. My only complaint is that the Scotts booed their own national anthem, doesn't make much sense, does it?

The English fans were also great, and even better than the Scottish fans. They were well behaved and I did not see any trouble at all throughout the whole weekend. It was scenes when Kane's last minute equaliser went in.

I appreciated the help the FSF offered us throughout the duration of the weekend. They gave us a Free Lions programme, with information about Glasgow, Hampden Park, and where the FSF fans embassy was located.

Overall the weekend was unforgettable, and I will definitely be going on another trip with England.

Note: Unlike Tranmere, tap water is easily available at Hampden, I did not get any myself, however, the couple next to me easily managed to get some for free.
