"A very good ground"

ryantollerfield's review of Deepdale

Deepdale is a superb stadium, and a great example of how to totally rebuild a stadium without relocating. The National Football Museum at the ground is well worth a visit and just adds to the attraction of the ground. Inside, the steep stands mean great views and the faces of Sir Tom Finney, Alan Kelly Snr, and Bill Shankly etched onto the seats of 3 stands give the ground an identity - one look at them and you know immediately where you are. The new Invincibles Pavilion rounds off Deepdale superbly.

Location

About 2 miles away from the train station in the city, but easy enough to find. Turn left out of the station, follow the High Street for 1 mile. Cross straight over the ring road, then take your first left after the ring road on to Sir Tom Finney Way. The ground will be on the right after about 1 mile. Plus the walk to the ground goes through the city centre, so ample choice for food and drink pre match.

View

As you would expect from a relativly new stand, the view and the leg room in the away end are superb. Not a restricted view to be found. Away fans are in one half of the Bill Shankly Kop behind the goal. The most vocal of the home fans seem to be on the other half of this same stand, so a decent atmosphere can get going.

Facilities

A much of a muchness really.

Food & Drink

Even by football food standard, the food was overpriced and undercooked. Best to eat outside the ground if possible.

Police & Stewards

Had no trouble from them on my numerous visits to Deepdale.

Atmosphere

Has been different each game. For the play-off semi-final 1st leg in May 09 all sides of the ground were rocking. But on the other end of the scale the Blades' 2 visits in the 01/02 season were met with a half full stadium and less atmosphere than Hillsborough!
