Our first visit to a League One modern ground - to be honest it felt like we were at a stadium built for concerts that had the stage transformed into a football pitch. The building and facilities are laid out well and make it easy to find a football fans much needed amenities such as the toilets and food - the internal concourse is nicely wide enough to allow footy fans to roam around easily before the match begins and equally at halftime. It does feel a little bit strange as the capacity far out matches the crowd size thereby giving an impression of dwindling attendance. However on the plus side, it is easy to choose your seats for the occasional visiting fans. You can see why this ground is a preferred stop for tournament and other showcase matches.
Well, all we can say is just follow all those darn roundabouts and one way systems!
It was very easy to find, unfortunately parking was £7 for utilising the vast parking lots in a major out of town shopping complex - seemed kinda sad they had to charge for that plus there were lots of additional security personnel & traffic cones put out to ensure footy fans weren't trying to save money by 'pretending' to go shopping first ;-)
Big tip - after losing £7 to parking, walk round the stadium anticlockwise to find the ticket shop - we found out the hard way!
Five stars says it all. We had a perfect view of all the action, from one end to the other. Due to the size of the half empty stadium, it would be easy to move around to other seats to enjoy different aspects during the match. Seats were very comfortable, roomy and clean. We were high up on the lower tier (upper tiers were closed off) thereby avoiding the rain. Wide stairways made it safe to enter/exit up onto the concourse. Sitting towards the corner with home fans but next to the away end gave us a great match experience.
Another set of five stars - perfectly laid out, even had the airport style tape barriers to help deal with the food/drink rush at the half.
Prices were reasonable but our choice of chocolate bars & Bovril combos were not the best - yah, we still don't know why we fell for that sales con - maybe a Jedi mind trick was played on us?(!). Plenty of choices though, seemed to remember the menu sign that posted 'Piglet pasties'?
Staff at the outlet we chose were diverted elsewhere leaving three tills down to one & then two - seemed quite a poor decision at the halftime rush.
One star due to simplicity used to police/steward the 9,000 attendance - thank you for letting us enjoy the match.
Very friendly and knowledgeable seating directions, easy to go unappreciated due the excellent facility, however we do appreciate their valued work.
We have to say that the home support did not sound too loud at all, whereas the 1,500 travelling fans did give a good account of themselves, singing and chanting throughout the entire 90mins.
Probably the home crowd were too dispersed around this massive stadium for a League One crowd?
And definitely quieter due to the home side being a goal & a man down inside the first few minutes!
When there is noise, the stadium's theatre set up is outstanding and does make the whole experience that much more engaging.
