"Great view of the pitch in a fairly decent looking ground"

has rated DW Stadium 3.0 out of 5.

roverschris' review of DW Stadium

Overall it's not a bad ground or a bad day out and would recommend going, it would just be better if there were more home fans to fill the empty seats.

Location

The ground location isn't really that hard to find by car and I believe there are plenty of car parking places near and by the ground. I've never driven to the ground myself I've always gone by train. There are 2 trains stations in the town center Wigan North Western & Wigan Wallgate which are a good 20 minute walk from the ground. So either take a taxi or bus or try and walk it.

On exiting Wigan North Railway Station turn left and go down the road heading under a railway bridge.

On leaving Wallgate station turn right and go down the road passing Wigan North station on your left and then proceed under the railway bridge. It is a fairly straight walk along Robin Park Road passing the Jacobs Well Pub (at Wigan Pier) on your left, which is okay for away supporters. When you reach the Seven Stars hotel, you should be able to see the stadium over on your right. Either at the Seven Stars Hotel turn right and follow the locals on a shortcut along a canal to the stadium, or take the next road on the right.

Either follow those directions or try and spot a fan who's going to the ground and follow them, once you find the large Asda store it's easy to find the stadium because it's right behind it.

View

Given it 5 stars for the view because it's an open ground so there no poles in your way of the action and the seats are comfortable and about average leg room. If visiting the ground in the winter months be warned that there are no sides to the ground and the cold wind does travel around the stands, the first time I went to the ground was in December 2007 and it was really freezing cold so wear warm clothes and thick socks.

Facilities

Facilities in the ground aren't at all bad there's plenty of toilets and there clean and don't smell at all.

Food & Drink

On the concourse alcohol is available in the form of Tetleys and Carling and they also sell food and I'd recommend trying the pies they're not called the best pies (£1.80 right price at this time) in the league for nothing. To try and bring some order, there is a queuing system in force which is overseen by the stewards. Also be warned that if there's a lot of away fans then the concourses will get packed easily which can make it fell uncomfortably and crowded at half time so try and make the front of the line.

Police & Stewards

The police and stewards are fair in and out of the ground so long as you don't make any trouble then you'll be fine.

Atmosphere

Atmosphere in the ground isn't really great from the home fans, if there are enough away fans then you can out sing them which we as Rovers fans normally do. To the left of the away section, tends to be the Wigan fans who wish to sing and make up most of the noise in the ground but there's not many of them so should be easy to drown them out with singing.
