The 2011 Championship play-off final was my reason for visiting. 40,000 Swansea fans made the journey from far and wide to London for possibly the biggest match in the club's history.
Fans flowed out of Wembley Park station onto the bustling Wembley Way which was dotted with food outlets and media personalities. The atmosphere was great on Wembley Way with fans of both clubs mixing and conversing. This was helped by the fact that Reading fans are some of football's least aggressive.
The structure was impressive and the famous arch can be seen from great distances. The glass outer shell of Wembley makes it look very modern.
Once inside, if you're in the higher tiers there are escalators that take you all the way to the top. When we used them the atmosphere was very lively.
However the real shock comes when you walk out into the bowl. The sheer size of this fabulous arena will leave you breathless. It's huge, and the pictures and videos you see don't do it any justice. I've been to the Camp Nou and somehow Wembley actually felt bigger! The open nature of the seating area gives you plenty to look at, including two large screens embeded in the stands, great architectural detail and of course the glowing green pitch.
Swansea won a great game 4-2 and were promoted to the Premier League (I still can't believe it). Though the main feeling I had was one of excitement at the prospect of big name opponents in the future, I was also left extremely impressed by the arena.
I'm Welsh, therefore I don't have the emotional attachment that English people have with Wembley. However I was extremely impressed with the architecture and the sheer size of Wembley. It's without a doubt one of the top stadia in the world.
This is probably Wembley's only downside.
Located in the backwaters of North London, away from the main attractions and train stations, in an area that's difficult to access by road; Wembley has one of the worst stadium locations in London.
Unlike the Millenium Stadium which is surrounded by hundreds of bars and restaurants, Wembley's situated in a cultural wasteland, with very few pubs and no good restaurants. The Wembley area's a dull, grey patch of residential area, low on beauty.
There's official parking at the stadium that you have to reserve beforehand. Apart from that there's no parking.
Can't fault it at all. There isn't a single poor seat in the stadium.
If you're sat at the back of the upper tier don't forget your specs and you'll have a great view of the playing action and the stadium.
Seats are comfortable and leg room's generous.
I heard people complain about the size of the toilets, and they weren't the biggest but there was no more queueing than at any other ground.
The toilets were classy by Stadium standards, with black and white styled sinks and toilets.
Very very clean.
There's a wide range of foods available such as Nachos, burgers and chicken dippers.
However it's all badly over-priced. £6 for Nachos? £8 for Chicken Dippers? Only an idiot would pay for food there.
The only beer available is Carlsberg (carbonated bog-water) from a plastic bottle for £4.50!!!
Prices put you off buying anything. There were never any queues because very few people were stupid enough to buy anything.
Police weren't noticable. Very low-key.
Stewards were at times too concerned with keeping to policy (ie, very strict with flags and banners), however they emptied the stadium very well after we lifted the trophy.
A big suprise. I expected the atmosphere to be dead in such a huge, open arena. But both sets of fans (especially the Swans) sang well. It wasn't your usual sing-song because as soon as one end of the stadium started a song, the other end would start another and you'd end up with a mush.
Outside the ground the two sets of fans got on well.
