Over the past decade I've been horrified at the swift transition made by many clubs from traditional stadia with character to dull, modern arenas. However the quicker they demolish Selhurst Park, the better.
Located in suburban South London, it's a nightmare to get to from the M4.
The stadium's seen very little development in recent years, especially the dilapidated away stand, which still contains wooden seats. One relatively new stand aside the ground looks frightfully disfigured; a miss-match of half-developed stands now truly feeling the strains of time.
If you're driving it's a tough final furlong once you've left the motorway. The crowded streets make life difficult for drivers. Parking spaces are in short supply in what is a very residential area.
Built into the stadium is a Sainsbury's, very useful for getting some snacks. There's a chip shop across the road from the away fans' entrance. A short walk from the stadium and you'll find a few pubs.
Wooden seats in 2011 is a disgrace!
There's little leg-room and some fans will have their views obscured by polls.
Toilets were small and not as clean as they could have been.
The usual selection.
Selhurst Park is one of the rare grounds that sells Carlsberg in a plastic bottle. It's carbonated bog-water.
Very helpful.
Police kept order well after the match when Palace and Swansea fans mixed outside the stadium.
When we went to Selhurst the noise was provided mostly by teenagers with a drum. But you get the impression that it's capable of a good atmosphere when full.
