"Your average new stadium"

has rated Cardiff City Stadium 2.5 out of 5.

ronaldinhollew's review of Cardiff City Stadium

Ninian Park was a horrible hovel, with an uncomfortable atmosphere and outdated amenities. But it was full of character and history.

Their new stadium is your standard one size fits all arena that so many clubs are unfortunately adopting these days (including my own).

From the outside it's probably the ugliest new stadium I've seen. The bizarre lego motif makes it look as if it were put together by a six year old lacking in colour coordination.

On the inside it's pretty comfortable. There's a spacious concourse as you'd expect. The stands aren't very steep, but leg-room is reasonably comfortable. The views of the pitch are brilliant, and the stadium can pack a good atmosphere when full.

Though the stands are uneven it looks good on the inside, with a different setup to most newer grounds.

Be aware it takes longer to exit the Cardiff City Stadium than most grounds due to the inconvenient layout of exits.

Location

When I went it was a bubble match, so can't comment on parking, but it's not too far from the city centre, and well within walking distance of many of the tourist hotspots like the Millenium Stadium, the castle, Sophia Gardens and the shops.

View

Can't complain at all. Good leg-room and no pillars to block your view.

Facilities

Toilets are modern, the concourse is spacious. As with most grounds there could be a better way of selling refreshments.

Food & Drink

The usual.

Police & Stewards

When I went it was a particularly heated affair (South Wales derby, Cardiff vs Swansea). The police weren't prepared, allowing fans to get too close in the stands, and not doing enough to intervene when violence broke out.

A lack of stewards in my opinion for this event.

Not sure what it's like for regular fixtures.

Atmosphere

Very much depends on the attendance.

They can be deafening, yet I feel on the whole, Cardiff's atmosphere is overrated. Locals are amongst the unfriendliest in the league.
