ldnewman's review of Vicarage Road

Ok so our home is looking a little tired. The main stand has seen better days but when it was built in 1922 it was the first of its kind. There is a joke between some fans that once we get enough money we will complete the other three to look like the main stand. Come on a Championship side with three useable stands, it is a bit of a joke.

Location

Not the best area in Watford but its being upgraded slowly and if you get too excited and your ticker goes on the blink you can pop next door to the newly rebuilt A&E. Not too far to walk from the main line or the underground. There are some schools and a few industrial estates to park in. Streets are all residential so avoid them.

View

More leg room than selhurst park and my shins dont scrape the seats in front and I am over 6 foot. I would say average for a footy ground. All views are unobstructed but the Lower Rous front few rows are below pitch level so not the best view.

Facilities

Depends where you sit. Main stand loads but that's an oversized press box now. Rous adequate toilets for the two tears. Rookery end has good toilets but could do with a lick of paint, never waited too long. Then there is the badly designed Vicarage Road end. Ooops I think the loos were an after thought with that one.

Food & Drink

Great cafe outside, great value. Inside not so great value. Par for the course with most grounds these days.

Police & Stewards

Most of the time good, but times when they are needed they seem to arrive late or not at all. Opposing fans sitting in the Rous have to climb up to pich level and still stewards can not seem to stop them. And the Police, one song sticks in my mind of 'Old Bill run from Burnley'.

Atmosphere

All Depends on who we are playing. There are the odd occasions when you will hear the fans in the Rous join the singing. Can be flat the same as any ground in the country.
