Great views from the side stands. Brilliant atmosphere as the noise circulates inside.
Vitesse beat NAC Breda comforably 3-0. The game seemed very slow and lethargic compared to the English leagues though. Some excellent 1-2 passing football was played by Vitesse and Wilfried Bony "ran the show" with 2 goals. He is the top scorer in Eredivisie and I would be surprised if he wasn't signed by a big club soon.
Free 24 page programme although the content didn't seem extensive.
I got the train to Arnhem station and then straight on to either bus number 7 or 31 from the bus station which is right next to the train station. They run every 10-15 mins and take less than 10 mins to arrive at The Gelredome. Cost was free with a match ticket.
There seemed to be ample free parking around the stadium but most people seemed to be using the free public transport.
For the first half I sat in row 5 of the side tribune. It was slightly raised above the pitch level as the disabled supporters were located right at the front. In the second half I moved towards the back rows, there were some obstructing pillars for the back 5 or 6 rows but other than that, brilliant. The away fans are fenced off in a corner so I guess their view would be impeded by the high fencing.
Plenty of toilets, everywhere was clean and tidy.
There was a McDonalds right next to the stadium so I went in there.
I didn't try the food or drink in the stadium as there was a munten (token) system with a fankaart (chip & pin) and I didn't understand the machines. Beer was freely served in pint & half pint sizes for 1 or 2 munten. Other fizzy drinks and hot drinks also available. The choice of food seemed large with the usual fries, hamburgers, sausages and krokets.
There were loads of police around the stadium on the main roads in both riot vans and on motorbikes.
There was a strict search before entering the stadium
The stewards were very helpful in finding my seat but the signs were adequate.
Very strong, loud and passionate support with drums, flags, scarves waving etc. There was a giant flag passed over my head at the start. When Vitesse scored there were 4 large inflatable players blown up behind each goal. Singing and clapping in time came from all areas of the ground too. Excellent.
