"Chorley FC - Victory Park"

has rated Victory Park 4.0 out of 5.

johnwickenden's review of Victory Park

I visited Chorley to watch a pre-season friendly against Rochdale. I had heard that Victory Park is more of a traditional ground with little in the way of modernisation and this turned out to be the case

Location

Only 5 mins walk from the town centre and the station , situated in the middle of a residential area. There are plenty of pubs and fast food outlets a few minutes walk away. The ground has a very small car park - no spaces left when I arrive 45 mins before kick off, but parking in the roads around the ground didn't seem to be a problem

View

Chorley is a more 'traditional ground'. The Main stand is impressive and runs 75% of the pitch length but is located on the far side of the ground from the entrance. Seating about 900 spectators and giving them a raised view of procedings. To the right side of the main stand (behind the far goal) is a small covered stand in the middle of an otherwise large open terrace. The opposite end of the ground is a large covered terrace which looks more modern than the other stands. The opposite side of the ground to the main stand is open with no terracing at all.

Facilities

There are toilets in the clubhouse as you enter the ground and on either side of the main stand. There is a clubshop outside the turnstiles, whilst inside the clubhouse Chorley have allowed a couple of fans to set up a 'shop' selling programmes and badges from aound the country.

Food & Drink

There are two fast food outlets in the ground, again, at either end of the main stand. I thought the prices were slightly higher than I normally pay (£1.30 for a tea, rather than the normal £1). There is also the bar / clubhouse.

Police & Stewards

Didn't see many - friendly game

Atmosphere

The attendance for this match must have been nearing 500 and it was clear that both sets of fans were passionate about their clubs. As usual you got the fans of the league club being very dismissive of non-league in general. Not much in the way of singing but I suspect that things are different when Chorley play at home in the league
