has rated The Haven Sportsfield 2.0 out of 5.

johnwickenden's review of The Haven Sportsfield

Crawley Down Gatwick ('The Anvils') spent two seasons in the Ryman South recently so their facilities are probably a little better than most teams in the SCFL Division 1. This season (15/16) the team are pushing for promotion and are free scoring so the £5 admission marks good value for money.

Location

Crawley Down village is located midway between Crawley and East Grinstead and has no rail station. Local buses from both towns stop right outside the Haven, which is located on the northern edge of the village. There is a large car park adjacent to the ground, which is actually located in the grounds of the village social club

View

The main stand is located on the near side, to the left of the halfway line and contains approx 160 seats, built for promotion to the Ryman league. There is also a covered terrace behind the goal to the right. There is no other cover but the entire pitch is surrounded by a hard path. The ground is fenced in so the action cannot be seen from the outside

Facilities

There is a portacabin containing mens and womens toilets at the right hand end of the ground. These were clean and tidy. There is no club shop but a small range of club souvenirs(scarves, hats, badges etc) are available - ask at the turnstiles. The programme is well put together with quite a lot of content for this level.

Food & Drink

There is a hut offering regular football fayre at reasonable prices. There is also a bar in the village social club, although I am not sure if this is accessible to football fans

Atmosphere

The ground is set in a quite open area - the other side of the pitch borders onto playing fields, so it isn't hemmed in. Combined with the small crowds attracted to this level means does appear to lack any real noise or atmosphere. Crawley Down Gatwick FC have signed up to the good language initiative, so it was noticeable that their players actually swore much less than you normally hear at non-league games !
