johnwickenden's review of Sincil Bank

Although not my first visit to Sincil Bank, I was here to see a table-topping Lincoln team take on Woking in the Vanarama Conference. The Ground hadn't changed from my previous visit 15 years ago and I sat in the same stand - the Software Europe, which is (I believe) the "Main" Stand as it also houses the club shop, bar, ticket offices and club offices (plus the dressing rooms).

Location

Sincil Bank is located in the "lower" part of Lincoln (the cathedral is on a prominent hill) about 20 minutes walk from the city centre and railway station. There are no pubs in the immeadiate vicinity but plenty are passed on the way to the ground. There is a chip shop on the corner of Cross and Scorer streets called 'Back of the Net' and this was packed with fans prior to kickoff. The ground does have a car park but spaces have to be reserved in advance, other than that it's street parking in a residential area....good luck

View

There are several pillars at the front of the Software Europe stand which did mean they were in the way but it hardly spoilt the view. These don't exist at the other stands . The SE and the Lincolnshire Co-operative stand opposite are quite high an seats at the top give a very elevated view. The two stands behind the goals - the Stacey West (away) and The Bridge McFarland stands are much lower. The ground is all-seater and views seemed to be good from everwhere

Facilities

I can only speak for the Main stand. Toilets are next to the turnstiles as you come in.

The clubshop was what you would expect for an ex- (and hopefully soon an 'ex ex-) league club and was very busy prior to kickoff.

Food & Drink

Didnt try anything but there were a number of burger vans in evidence.

Police & Stewards

There weren't that many Woking fans (64) so the likelyhood of trouble was pretty low - as a resukt I didn't actually see any police! The stewards were helpfull and there were plenty about.

Don't know what it would be like when the Imps play someone like Grimsby !

Atmosphere

Really good, based on the fact that I normally go to grounds two steps below the Conference ! Most of the noise came from the Co-op stand opposite where there were at least 2 drummers keeping the home crowd singing. It also helped that the team were top of the league (somewhere I hope they stay this season) and it was a crowd of over 5000 cheering the team on
