johnwickenden's review of Notcutts Park

The second night of another Eastern Counties League Cup double-header for me. This time it was another local derby / premier v first division tie, with Woodbridge Town ('the Peckers'...after their Woodpecker badge) versus Framlingham Town ('the Castlemen').
Notcutts Park was only built during the 1970s, although in places it appears a bit older. It isn't of the same size as Mildenhall's Recreation Way, which I visited the previous evening, but then Woodbridge had never got as far as the Isthmian league. A fairly standard county league sized ground really.

Location

Notcutts Park is situated in a residential area but it is on the extreme western edge of Woodbridge. The far side of the ground borders on to the A12 road. To get to the ground take the B1284 turn off at the A12 roundabout to the south of the town, then turn left next to the Duke of York pub and left again into Fynn Road. The ground has a reasonably sized car park, but parking in the residential roads is also an option. Woodbridge does have a station, but it is a 35 min walk away in the town centre. As for places to eat / drink....the Duke Of York is part of the Vintage Inns chain and does decent food.

View

There is a single stand with seats in the ground and this is located astride the halfway line on the same side as the turnstiles / clubhouse. Pleasingly it is not one of those dime a dozen arena type stands. Seat-wise, it's wooden benches (although the centre of the stand does have plastic seats fixed to the benches....but these are for Directors). Unfortunately, I found the benches to be pretty damn uncomfortable.
Next to the stand is a small area of covered terrace, which has been adapted from a metal 'arena' stand. The other three sides of the pitch are uncvered and consist only of a concrete patch

Facilities

Toilets are in the clubhouse, which appeared modern and clean.

There is a club shop of sorts most games. Thus is a table set up inside the clubhouse. Unfortunately for my visit this was not open as the guy who mans it was actually at Portman Road watching the 'other town'.
As seems to be thecase with all teams in the ECL.the programme seemed to be very good for the price

Food & Drink

Normal fayre, normal prices

Atmosphere

Pretty good. It was an awful evening, with driving rain, but the 120 odd fans made a valiant attempt to make some noise
