I went to see my home town team - Horley Town - take on one of their nearest neighbours in the Combined Counties League. Bit of a mixed bag best describes Merland Rise. There is a decent amount of cover in the ground, which stands on three sides of the ground (only one contains seats) but the rest of the facilities, just aren't up to standard
The ground is in a residential location in Tadworth. The nearest railway station is Tattenham Corner (which serves Epsom Racecourse), about 15 minutes walk away. There is also a decent size car park on site. Refreshment-wise, this appears to be a bit of a wilderness, with no pubs or places to eat anywhere nearby.
The seats are located in the stand on the far side of the pitch and consist of a plastic 'seat' but no back - about 50 seats in all. There is one covered shelter behind the near goal and a larger one on the near side of the ground. Changing rooms are located in the clubhouse which is outside the ground in the car park.
Toilets are in the clubhouse. There is no club shop or merchandise nor do the club produce a hard copy programme (and the on line one is pretty crap anyway)
There is a bar in the clubhouse and they can serve you alcoholic drinks or teas / coffees, but there is very little in the way of food....cheese and pickle roll or crisps and thats it
Banstead were in 3rd place, Horley lower midtable. Crowd was about 55 and the Horley fans made far more noise. Nuff said
