"My non-league haunt"

has rated Longmead 3.0 out of 5.

johnwickenden's review of Longmead

I go to this non-league ground more than any other - the Angels are my second team., There are stands on three sides of the ground at Longmead. The Main (or West) Stand covers about 75% of the length of the pitch and is all seater. The two stands behind the goals (the North / Jack Maddams Stand and the South Stand). These tend to be where the most vocal Tonbridge supporters gather, with the opposite housing the away fans. As is usual with non-league, the fans change ends at half time. The east side of the ground is where the turnstiles. social club, club shop and boardroom are located, together with the new media suite (Video gantry) and the strange little stand used by home and away officials.

Location

Not ideal. The Angels were moved to Longmead from the old Angel Ground in 1980. It\'s quite a way from the town centre and station and on the outskirts of a housing estate. In fact, the Main stand is just about the furthest west building in the town !

View

The Main Stand suffers from being quite low with pillars at regular intervals along the front. Seats are the bulk standard plastic ones at all grounds. The two stands behind the goals are terraced with good views.

Facilities

Social club / bar, toilets at various sites around the ground, club shop selling a small range of club mementos

Food & Drink

There are a couple of food outlets - one on either side of the pitch, selling your regular burger and chips, hot dogs, teas etc, but they\'ve also started with jacket spuds !
Plus they sell bovril here !

Police & Stewards

Not many occassions when the stewards are called into action or any police presence is needed. Local derbies against Maidstone were one instance and games against Dover plus other Kent clubs can be \'tasty\' with a lot of rivalry between the fans.
Sutton Utd are also considered as a team that the Angels really don\'t like...although that\'s more to do with the U\'s manager Paul Doswell threatening an Angels fan a few years back

Atmosphere

Generally the Angels fans are quite lively with plenty of singing and a drummer. The situation of the ground, close to open countryside doesn\'t help the atmosphere, but when the Blue Army are in voice and with an average gate of over 400, Longmead is a decent ground to visit.
