johnwickenden's review of King George's Field

I went to see Casuals take on (semi) local rivals Dorking Wanderers on 4th March 2017. Casuals were a nomadic team for several decades, despite being one of the famous amateur clubs in British Football. They settled on King Georges Field, near the main A3 road and the Tolworth Tower, some time back. Lovely March weather for a game, noisy crowd for the Ryman League and genuinely friendly people.

Location

KGF is located on the south side of the A3 a few hundred yards west of the Tolworth Interchange. When travelling by road you need to take the westbound sliproad to the A3 but turn left onto Hook Rise before you get down onto the dual carriageway. Tolworth Station is about 10 minutes walk, being located just off the Tolworth Interchange too. Didn't notice any pubs nearby by there is a Domino's Pizza and an M&S foodhall at the base of Tolworth Tower. There are pubs in Hook / Chessington which is at the next exit of the A3 to the west. Car parking is in the field adjacent to the ground or in residential streets.

View

The Main Stand is split 50/50 between seats and terracing and runs along half the length of the pitch. It is a very low affair, which only about 4 rows of seats. There is a covered terrace along the full length of the goal at the car park end and a smaller covered terrace behind the goal at the Hook End. The far side of the pitch is uncovered

Facilities

There are a number of toilets inside or outside the club house. There is also a small club shop (called the Casuals Megastore), which is located in a small wooden garden shed, behind the stand. It sells badges, scarves, books, old programmes, shirts etc

Food & Drink

There is a tea bar plus the clubhouse (as is the norm at this level). Prices are pretty standard

Atmosphere

The crowd for this match was 210, which is pretty big for the Ryman 1 South. There is a core of noisy support for the casuals who sang throughout the game and the atmosphere was genreally pretty good - definately more of an atmosphere than at your average R1S match.
