"Selby Town FC - Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium"

Visited to see the home side take on local rivals Tadcaster Albion in a pre-season friendly.
Firstly, I'm not sure why the ground is referred to as the Flaxley Road Ground as it is in Richard Street and is known (apart from the sponsored name) as the Richard Street Ground !
Apart from that, this is one of the most unusual grounds I have visited in that it is the wrong way round (stands behind the goals and nothing along the sides) and there is a ditch running around two sides of the pitch between the playing surface and the spectators.
Overall the ground shows its age and is on the delapidated side of quaint I'm afraid.

Location

Its right in the centre of Selby, next door to the Leisure Centre and 5 minutes walk from Selby Abbey. In that respect it is very accessible, with good transport links and plenty of parking. There are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby as well.

Entry to the ground is through a single set of turnstiles alongside the clubhouse. This side of the ground is a long terrace of about 5 steps. The clubhouse contains the usual facilities (see later). To the left (Town end) is a small stand on the terrace. To the right hand end is the main stand. This is divided into three sections - either side is a covered terrace whilst the centre is a seated section. Seats are essentially large wooden terraces with places marked out as individual seats - not particularly comfortable and quite old fashioned.
The far side from the clubhouse is where the changing rooms and dugouts are. This is not terraced but consists of a wide concrete path.

Facilities

There are toilets in the clubhouse. There is also a gents in the corner of the clubhouse side / Main Stand end. this is...err, well.....it reminded me of a 1950s outdoor privvy !
There is a clubshop (unusual for a club at this level) and it is located at the far end of the clubhouse. Unfortunately it was shut during my visit.

Food & Drink

Didn;t partake but there is a bar in the clubhouse and a refreshment kiosk just inside the entrance

Atmosphere

About 80 present of which about half were from Taddy. Not a lot of atmosphere and Selby aren't a hugely successful club.
