Brora is, let's face it, a long way from anywhere. Rangers' nearest rivals are Wick Academy-46 miles to the north (so even more remote) or Clachnacuddin, 56 miles to the south down the A9. Brora is a village directly on the A9 to Thurso and only has a population of a few thousand, so the fact that the club are one of the more successful in the HFL is quite remarkable. Its a fairly typical HFL ground, with stands on two sides and nothing behind the goals. I visited for an October Saturday afternoon top of the table clash against Fraserburgh in glorious blue sky weather.
It's literally next to the A9 main road (which runs through the village) just on the southern outskirts of Brora (in fact, it's pretty much the first building you come to heading into town). There is plenty of car parking at the ground or in the streets nearby.
Brora does have a station which is about 5-10 mins walk from the ground and has trains serving it to / from Inverness. However, they run about every 3 hours and the journey itself takes 2 1/2 hours ! (it only takes an hour and fifteen by car)
Turnstiles are behind the goal at the southern end of the ground. As you enter the small Main Stand is located astride the halfway line on the left. This contains seating (on wooden benches) for about 100 (including the directors) and 'transfer' to the stands costs an extre £1. On the far (right hand) side of the pitch is a covered standing area which runs pretty much the whole length of the pitch itself. This is where the more vocal support for both teams stood.
One set of toilets, adjacent to the main stand. There is a club shop which sells a range of merchandise. No programme is produced by the club - the give away team sheets instead. I was rather disappointed to find that, having come all the way to Brora, I wouldn't have a programme.
There is a clubhouse behind the southern goal. Before the match this was busy serving pre-match meals to various people, although there is a bar. Inside the ground there is one tea 'hut' (located in the clubhouse, facing into the ground). Strangely this didn't actually open until kick off and closed in the 2nd half. The sold a range of differnet pies, sausage rolls, hot drinks and chocolate. I bought a meat pie, a sausage roll and a tea and was amazed that it cost me a mere £4
Pretty good.....the crowd was about 300 I guess, Fraserburgh are one of the better supported teams and there was a fair bit of noise from both sets of fans.
