johnwickenden's review of Coomes Way

Vistied 13 Jan 2018 to see Wick v St Francis Rangers in the Southern Combination League Division 1. The ground is located in Coomes Way but is called Crabtree Park and Wick were, until two seasons ago, called Wick and Barnham United.

Location

Wick is a village on the northern outskirts of Littlehampton. The ground is in Coomes Lane which about 200 yards north of the A259 / A284 roundabout. The road is on the right just before the level crossing. Nearest station is Littlehampton which is easily 20 mins walk and, whilst there is a car park on site, this only holds about 50 cars and a lot of spaces gets taken up by club officials and players. There is street parking nearby. The nearest pub is the Locomotive by the level crossing although about a mile to the north in Lyminster is the Six Bells

View

County League division 1...don't expect too much. Turnstiles are behind the goal with the main stand ahead as you enter the ground. This looks about 40 years old and is of corrugated metal construction. It contains about 50 seats, none of which have backs. The only other cover is a small covered area on the other side of the pitch near the dugouts. There is a hard path surrounding the rest of the pitch.

Facilities

The clubhouse is built to match the rest of the houses in Coome Way...it looks like a house ! Toilets are on the ground floor and a clean and tidy. There is no club shop and nor do they sell any club merchandise from the bar upstairs. The programme is poorly finished with a single staple but it actually contains a fair bit of info on the team and the Southern Combination league. Good value for £1.

Food & Drink

There is a bar upstairs in the clubhouse and a tea bar / hatch outside. There was no price list displayed so I have no idea what hot food they offer. I do know they sell soft drinks, tea / coffee etc, crisps and chocolate bars

Atmosphere

There isn't any. The average crowd this season has been 38. Apart from the odd shout of "Come on Wickers!" (and I thought they were talking to me) the loudest noise was the opposition captain
