Littlehampton Town 4-0 Horsham YMCA

After a long day I decided to take a trip along the sound coast to one of two possible fixture I could attend being played to watch LTFC take on YMCA. Not knowing all too much about the level I expected an even game, as most non league fans in the area will recognise both teams.

How wrong was I, the first half an hour was a true non-league, end to end affair, crunching challenges flying in and the referee was borderline losing control, after 19 minutes LTFC were awarded a penalty which was duly dispatched by Jordan Layton for the hosts.

Up until the 30 minute mark YMCA were on top, but as Littlehampton grew into the game the divide between the teams grew, with striker Joe Benn scoring a complete hat-trick to seal the 4-0 margin of victory.

Also the game had the first sin bin that I have seen in a competitive game!

Attendance was around 300-350, quite a bit higher than I’d expected! But all in all a lovely experience

Location

Easy enough ground to get to via either public transport or driving, located pretty centrally within Littlehampton it’s a 15 minute walk from the train station in a straight line, food options on the way as well if you don’t fancy Non-league grub at half time

View

All round good pitch view, the whole ground is accessible to fans, however there was nowhere visible that offered shelter to fans in a wheelchair etc, so maybe not the greatest on a wet winters night

Facilities

Standard non league facilities really, toilets are clean but nothing special, as they’re situated in the clubhouse they’re quite well looked after throughout the game. The main perk is the fact that the ground is situated in a large field, which is helpful for those who’s children aren’t quite as interested in the football, also plenty of space in all regards.

In regards to the clubhouse, it is definitely one of the better ones I’ve seen in this league, it was clear however it isn’t just used for football, as the Sportsfield has a variety of local level Littlehampton teams based there in different sports. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It lead to better facilities (apart from the 15 minute wait for a pint of strong bow because the barrel needed changing)

Food & Drink

£4 for a cheeseburger may seem pricey at this level, but you do get your monies worth for sure, very hefty burger!

In the clubhouse, the price for drinks are definitely reasonable, around £4.50 for a pint is about the usual in the area so can’t complain on that front one bit.

Police & Stewards

Stewards were non existent, as to be expected at this level on a Wednesday night, fans can smoke wherever they please (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing in all regards) staff at the ground were the friendliest I’ve ever witnessed anywhere, which does definitely make up for it

Atmosphere

Wasn’t really much atmosphere to speak of truthfully, the biggest voice was the assistant on the Horsham bench who repeatedly almost got himself sent off! Truly non league
