Boothferry Park was the first football ground I ever went to. My Dad took me along when I was around 5 years old. The old place (unfortunately now no longer standing) holds many fond memories. The pitch provided a fantastic playing surface and in some parts of the ground (the Well) you were just a few yards away. Games played under the floodlights were particularly atmospheric. There was 4 stands when I first went to the ground around 1970 - 3 with seating. Kempton was the the only stand without seating but behind this stand was the railway line bringing fans directly to the ground from the train station.
Easy to get to and even had a railway line bringing fans directly to the ground from the railway station in the city centre
Typical old style football ground. Seating available but predominantly old style terracing.
The stadium had its own training facilities with an outdoor pitch and indoor gymnasium/sports hall. The floodlights were fantastic and I recall a club shop at the back of Bunkers Hill.
Catering facilities were the norm as football grounds for the 1970"s - tea huts etc.
Whenever any of the big clubs or nearby Yorkshire sides came to town the atmosphere was great particularly so under the lights.
