"More of a community facility than a ground"

hampshirehopper's review of John Jenkins Stadium

Brand new ground. 2 pitches. Great huge new building in between the 2 pitches. Bar is located in there.

Accepts cash at the turnstile, but cashless once you are inside! Logic of that?

Expensive for kids aged 12-17 - £6. Unsurprisingly, there didn't seem to be anyone in that age group there!

Location

Could easily park at the stadium car park. It is walkable from Hilsea railway station, although wouldn't be a direct route to ground from the station.

View

No space behind the goal off to the right from the stand. Or on the far side of the pitch. Very cramped, people have to pull their stomachs in to let you past, impossible for a wheelchair to get through. No terracing. Not much covered area. Brand new stand and pillars in the way. You can't walk all the way around the pitch. You can only get as far as the dugouts. Yet there is 3 metres of space between the touchline and the fencing.

Food & Drink

Cashless, so didn't spend my money inside the ground. Their loss ££

Atmosphere

No atmosphere. £6 entry for a kid, you don't see the dads and lads, which is sad.
