Went there to see the first game of the season, a cup match between Napoli and Modena. Il Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is a must-see if you seek to break out from familiar British footy experience. Everything is different : the architecture of the stadium, the surroundings, the mood set up by the fans, etc. It is both fascinating — as the Neapolitans are so passionate about their club — and tiring: the stadium is quite dilapidated, you're sitting far from the field, and most of all: there was no more train to get back to my hotel after the game, so I must have spent 3 hours or more to go home.
It's very easy to get to the game through the Line 2 of the metro, and a 10 minute walk from there. However there was no more train after the game — we were never warned — and I spent 3 hours to get home after waiting for a bus which was stuck in a huge traffic jam.
You must absolutely get a "superior" ticket to get a good view of the pitch as there is a track surrounding it. You will be quite far from the players no matter what type of ticket you get.
It was quite difficult to find my seat and I must say the stewards were not very helpful. No other problems whatsoever.
Napoli fans are passionate and sing through the whole game. It is a very Latine-esque experience: fans. in the "Curvas" (there are two kops in Napoli) don't necessarily react to the game but prefer to provide continuous singing. The lateral stands however are filled with local enthusiasts who will live the game intensely.
