A rare Saturday off and in need of a football fix saw me head to Whaddon Rd for a pre season friendly between Cheltenham and the Posh. Cheltenham is a lovely town full of lovely pubs so I was well looking forward to it. The Posh ended up taking the Robins apart and I couldn't help feeling it was to be another difficult season in store for town.
It's about 10-15 minute walk from the town centre, but it's a very pleasant walk. No trudged through industrial estates or dodgy areas here. The train station is way out of town though. If you can, make a stop at the Kemble Brewing Co, a little pub in the backstreets. Excellent.
Sat in the grandstand. Had a choice of old school wooden seats or knackered looking plastic ones. Anything other than the front row and there is zero legroom. In the front row a metal bar ran straight across my eyeliner obscuring the view. Should have stood on the terrace.
There were toilets. They weren't Great. But this is League 2.
Standard burgers hot dogs and pukka pies. What I liked was a tupper ware container with salad in so you can put lettuce and tomato in your burger. Hot dog bland and dull.
Cheltenham made quite a bit of noise to be fair, the attendance was just over a thousand and it was a pre season friendly but they definitely made themselves heard. Especially as the game went on and Peterbrough kept scoring goals. Only about 20 from Peterborough.
