We've been meaning to tick the Stadium of Light off for a few years and what with it being my birthday weekend decided to finally make the ridiculously long trip up from South Wales for a weekend away. Sunderland is a great town full of friendly people and the stadium is one of the better new builds. The win made the long trip home a lot more bearable, but I enjoyed my jaunt to the north east. Although next time, we're flying.
Walkable in about 20 minutes from the town centre. It's a great opportunity to walk across the Wearmouth bridge.
There's a metro station called St Peter's close by. As an away fan, didn't fancy trying the pubs near the ground much but it was fine drinking in town.
High up and behind the goal, but you do get a great view.
The meat and potato pie was excellent. Staff seemed a bit overwhelmed at halftime. There were some girls handing out free pepperamis before the game which was a bonus. I may have taken more than my fair share.
Locals are friendly and there were no problems whatsoever. Didn't make a lot of noise but that may be down to them losing and their terrible start to life back in the Championship in general.
