gandl's review of Brooklands Stadium

In the late sixties and early seventies the Boro were a considerable force in non league football. However there attendances never really required a 20k capacity stadium.
The main stand was well appointed and a new addition in the sixties, nice bar complex underneath and good seating capacity.
The popular side was the covered terrace that ran down the opposite side, known as the Clockside, again with good visibility.
Best crowd I was at there was the Gillingham cup game with c11k inside, not full.
The best atmosphere was always the derby games against Chelmsford, which always had an edge to them.
In their brief tenure the Romford Bombers attracted regular crowds of upto 8k.
Maybe if one local resident hadn't gone to the high court to get them shut down then Boro would have been financially sorted and not spent the subsequent nigh on 50 years playing at a succession of other peoples grounds

Location

Circa 10 minute walk from Romford station, tucked away in local housing. if you didn't know
where it was not the easiest to find

Food & Drink

Best cup of tea under the Clockside
