Normally I hate new stadia and hate sitting down even more. But if this is the way forward and what we should all expect then you could do a lot worse than St Mary's. Everyone was friendly and I didn't see even the slightest bit of any trouble. I came away wanting Southampton to make it right back to the top.
The location is quite picturesque I guess, near the docks surrounded by all the industry, but it's hard to get to for away fans. Saying that, we used the away fans park and ride which was excellently organised and well signposted. A really decent solution to the problem.
The view was perfect, you could never be too far from the pitch and the rake of the stand is good. Leg room wasn't great but it was a lot better than some all seaters.
Facilities were good. Loads of loos (clean too), reasonably priced beer (for a footy ground anyway), and the food looked alright too (although as it was Boxing Day, I'd stuffed a load of turkey sandwiches down my throat on the way so I gave it a miss!).
One slightly overzealous policeman who kept telling us to sit down (even though the Saints fans 5 yards away were allowed to stand for the whole game) but overall everyone was very friendly.
Personally, I thought the atmosphere was really good from the home fans. Saying that, there was a fair amount of them and they did thrash us! They sang a few different songs and had some fun.
