"Stadium of Plight"

Being a Newcastle fan, and not wanting to part with too much cash to the old foe's coffers, I went to a reserve fixture between the two clubs. Cost a reasonable £3 to get in.

The stadium is stuck in the middle of a car park, and even in the most biased of opinions it has to be said lacks character as well as history. At least Roker Park had both.

The view of the pitch is good, but I suspect those home supporters in the very rear seats of the East Stand stuck behind pillars won't get as good view of the whole pitch.

The turnstile operator was a plus for SAFC, though I feel the steward was a little bit over fussy!

Middle of a car park next to the river (Wear else!?)

Nearest rail station (metro) Stadium of Light and the nearer! St Peter's (regional Rail) Sunderland.

View

Good view of the pitch. Though there is a problem with bird mess on several rows of seats, (indeed one fan got a direct hit during the game!)

Facilities

Toilets were average. Nowt flash!

Food & Drink

I didn't have anything, but i saw a price list with a pie for £3.50!!!!!

Police & Stewards

Steward was a bit fussy in keeping fans in a particular section. It was a reserve match. And home fans were at the opposite end of the ground. As it was so many NUFC fans turned up he had to relent and let people sit where they wished!

Police were low key. Though they moved in when some away fans became a bit too boisterous. they did it in a calm professional manner, and managed to keep the peace without any trouble

Atmosphere

5 stars for NUFC fans 0 for SAFC!
