You can tell Elland Road was a top flight ground as it is worlds apart from most other League 1 grounds. The place is massive and the whole layout (inside/outside) the ground is very impressive.
Try and get there early as it usually gets busy - as you would expect with around 20,000 people trying to get to the place.
Tickets are a little bit 'steep' for the level of football Leeds are playing and they should realise they are playing League 1 football and stop living in the past of there Premiership days. So be prepared to be 'robbed' when you get to the turnstilles.
Elland Road is virtually straight off the motorway and if you fail to spot it, you need glasses as the big stand can be seen for miles - and it is a big stand. And if you are unsure of who plays in the arena the big Leeds United badge might just give it away.
There are car parks around the ground and the police save spaces for supporters coaches so its quite well organised, and you are only across the road from the ground.
The away fans are situated in one corner of the ground known as the 'cheese wedge'. All the seats are bright yellow and the section is split into 2 tears (the upper being the larger). The away section is also wedge between home fans and it makes for a good atmosphere.
I sat in the upper tear (1 row from the back) and there were a few problems. The 1st of these were stantions. It obstructed a small part of the pitch which was a little disappointing. The 2nd was that everyone seemed to be squashed together a little bit making it a little uncomfortable.
The facilities are quite good to be honest. Before you enter the ground there are burger vans so you can get something to eat. Inside the ground there is a large seating area with tables. They also have vending machines for chocolate and drinks.
Outside the ground the food is cheaper than inside the ground so get something to eat before you enter.
Police and stewards have a tough job with the away fans being in between the home fans. They do quite a good job but insist everyone sits in the correct seats. No one ever does, as friends tickets more than likely are separate, so they're wasting their time. They were just trying to ruin what should be a good day out.
After the game the police tend to have it sorted so the there isn't much traffic building up and they get the roads around the ground flowing quickly so everyone gets away pretty quickly.
Having the home and away fans so close together makes for an amazing atmosphere. The roof on the away section is low so it generates a lot of noise. With 20,000+ Leeds fans, there is always going to be noise made. This tends to inspire our fans to raise our voices and pump up the volume for an amazing atmosphere.
Inside the ground the Leeds fans want to look intimidating and try and goad the away fans but thats all a front. Outside the ground they are quite nice and I had a chat with a number of their fans.
