derek-hart has rated Maurice Dufrasne Stadion 5.0 out of 5.
A brilliant experience.
From the helpful in the tourist office in the centre of Liege to stewards helping and the kind staff in the ticket office....... Right to the match itself this was a memorable occasion.
Finding the stadium was a challenge, buying tickets without passport ID could have been a problem (but my drivers licence and sons library card did the trick!) but nothing got in the way of a brilliant night of footy at one of the giants of Belgian football.
3-1 to Standard over F.C. Minsk is one of the stand out games I've ever been to
Location of the stadium is fine but the lack of signage proved to be a bit of a problem. Even when you've spotted the ground getting to the ground can take a few go's...... Over the river and back, up and down the same stretch of road to try a different route.
If you are going to Maurice Dufranse Stadium/ Stade de Schlessin allow yourself plenty of time!!
Comfort was fine.... Up on high in the third tier. Leg room was fine but the rows are steep so if you suffer from vertigo avoid the top tier.
The view was good, I like elevation at matches but the third tier may be too high for some tastes (not too high for me though)
Toilets clean and in good condition, walkways very clean and tidy.
Once you work out the cash free system it is fine but drinks (even water) cant be taken to your seat. Not a lot of English spoken but that is not untypical of the city not just the ground
Very large police presence despite no away supporters but the huge numbers of people around the streets was generally friendly so no problems existed. Helpful stewards directed me in half French, half English, half sign language (yes I know that is 3 halves!!) to the ticket office and to where parking is available (parking was difficult to find for a non-permit holder - on street parking was chocca but about a mile away the was a staffed car park that charged however much you wanted to pay)
Wow!! It was booming!!
A Europa League second leg match (Standard already 2-0 from the first leg) might not get people too excited in England but Liege was absolutely rocking. Flags, singing and general noise was a spectacle. The early two goals for Standard helped maintain the atmosphere but to be honest the noise was loud inside the ground an hour before kick off.
